With some luck, I'll be able to dismiss this as the low point of my Hyatt year. Note that some issues are hotel-related while some are just me.
Pre-arrival, I received an email and some follow ups from the hotel. In responses to questions about the airport shuttle, I was encouraged to just catch the MRT, any one in the right direction, one stop. Don't do this. Only a Commuter will work. My Express train stopped at Taoyuan HSR, skipping several stations. Busses that normally stop at the Airport Hotel stop do not stop these days, due to construction at Terminal 3 (so the bus driver told me).
I was also advised to check in only at the Regency Club on the 9th floor (not to be confused with ground floor Lounge). As we all would have predicted, one must check in at the front desk to get a key card to activate the elevator to get to the 9th floor. Less predictable , only half of the elevator-summoning buttons work. Some merely light up for a couple of seconds. This is hinted at on the ground floor, where non-functioning buttons are under translucent tape; no indication on other floors.
At the hotel. With all the transportation nonsense, I missed Regency Club opening hours (closes 7:00PM). I did go have a peek. I was dutifully carded to establish my access rights, but the only food or beverage was seven gummy candies (bears, perhaps, but too melted to tell) in the bottom of a jar. My room, well, I guess it was Premium in the sense of having a view of the airport...along with all the noise. I am not particularly noise-sensitive, but this was too much noise for me. I stopped by the StayFit. It was large, staffed and had lots of equipment (including pool cues for the table outside) but not the equipment pictured in photos, that I specifically inquired about in advance, and which is part of my medical rehab. Some of the equipment is quite old, including indestructible Life Fitness treadmills from decades ago.
Hungry, but not keen on gambling more psychological chits on the hotel restaurant, I returned to the airport for landslide food. There are no restaurants near the hotel.
Back at the airport: Found food and, then a more-comfortable, quieter spot than my small room. Slept there, in part to make morning departure easier.
I must say that the people at the front desk were great. I tried not to let my pre-arrival, built-up frustrations show. Really tried. (Not their fault.) But they probably sensed how I felt, and two agents rushed to get me checked in very quickly.
