This "unfairness" debate reminds me of the long discussions during Covid. To reflect travel bans and a reduced offering of flights Flying Blue decided to credit missing XPs to all those customers that would otherwise lose their status. The philosophical debate was then between those who complained that this was unfair to those that qualified by meeting the XP requirement, as they didn't get a "gift" that others got; and those that argued that this credit was not a "gift" but a "support" to those impeded to fly because of an external constraint, and that it made no sense to support those that wouldn't need that support.
Funny how this "unfairness" thing comes up again (but isn't it also very French to always look at what others are getting?). And maybe that "revendicatif" and "I am owed this" attitude also comes through when people protest that they are not getting the "ULTI recognition". Is there even an English word for "revendicatif"?
Oh well, Europe and its mentalities, always interesting...
