I was reviewing the T&Cs for the earning charts. I do agree that Alaska does not place is codeshare code on any porter flights (i.e AS 9XXX). Therefore, the "marketed by" portion is clearly lacking per se on the earn chart for "marketed by AS and operated by Partners" to earn the higher rates that the Partner booked chart. This is probably why you automatically get the lower earn rate as there is no Alaska flight number to trigger the other chart earn. The programing defaults to the partner chart since it posts as a PD flight. (For example, when i fly BA with partners....i only see BA flight numbers posted to MP even though AY operated a segment....i earn on the BA chart). This is a unique situation where AS only puts its code on 13 of its 31 partners. (including HA) so i wonder if there are other data points out there on partners that you can book through AS but arent "marketed by"
For example, its hard to find SQ flights.....especially SFO >> SIN .... I would expect UA to be pretty pissed off if you could book that on Alaska and earn full miles. I mainly see codeshare and OW flights being shown only through alaska (which you would expect).
So i wonder with all the EARN/BURN partners.....will they all post as "partner" flights instead of the alaska chart even though they are booked on AS as part of a full 027 ticket with AS flights? You can book UP flights and intra-HI but no AS flight number.
The partner pages do in fact call out any flight flights booked "directly on Alaska" they call out 100% and earning at the AS marketed and partner operated rates......but it seems the programming with MP has not been done properly. It seems they only look for an AS flight number not that it was on a 027 ticket number as another qualifier in thier logic. Regardless poor T+Cs are out there....uncoordinated information on the partner pages and terrible implementation in programming. Im a pretty savy FF on the earning rules and loop holes....even im like? SO what do i earn now?
A few requests of AS:
1. clean up the T+C and note 027 ticket stock as the qualifier....not the code share AS flight number
2. fix the programming to save you a ton of CS time.
3. Fully explain the EQM earn on award tickets clearly across the site.
I would have though thier lawyers would have reviewed the language and clarified it.....but i guess not.
I have an AS bought PD flight in reserve next week. I will let you know how it posted.
