Surprise equipment switch to Qsuite T-24 before departure which made for a pleasant start to the year. I can see they have slightly expanded the menu compared to last time I took this flight summer 2024, the menu now consists of full breakfast and lunch (was lunch + light meal last year).
Nevertheless catering ex-CGK leaves a lot to be desired, crew and purser was excellent overall and tried their best in terms of service recovery when one of my dishes came out half frozen (more below).
Breakfast Starter - Greek yoghurt with guava compote and toasted nut granola, Seasonal fresh fruit
Breakfast Mains - Coconut waffles with mango curd maple syrup and fresh berries - this was acceptable, but the exact same dish as my flight 6 months prior. They need to switch it up.
Lunch - Poached prawns with avocado purée rainbow cherry tomatoes and coriander oil.
Despite the presentation the shrimp was icy and half frozen inside, so I sent it back. FA was very apologetic and flagged it to the purser who came immediately to apologize (she later returned offering the same dish again which she claims to be better than the first one, refused kindly and settled for the arabic mezze as a safe alternative). The FA apologized multiple times and I had to reassure him it was not his fault at all.
Lunch - classic arabic mezze
Gulf style chicken machboos with daqoos sauce crispy shallots, raisins and almonds. 6/10 chicken was dry.
Pandan crepes with coconut cream palm sugar syrup. 5/10 as filling was way too sweet for me.
