Although what you are saying may be true of their obligation, without prompting, I have been compensated for less significant delays. I flew to Hawaii from Toronto a few years back (on a purchased business class) and after three plane changes and 3 hours of delays we finally left. When I returned home, I was surprised to receive a written letter of apology and 5000 miles in my account. I wouldn't be surprised if you get something.
