I booked a cash ticket for Thursday in the wee hours of this morning and there was no hold option. I assume that was because it was too close to departure. I don't have much experience booking cash tickets that close in. Normally an award ticket will have a hold option no matter how close you are to departure. I also just booked a couple of awards for several weeks out and got the 5 day hold option.
