I agree. They are an expensive gimmick. I would never stay in one even if it was the only Marriott in town. I did my stint of basic back in the 80s, as a student. Seriously I have a disabled husband and need as many facilities as possible when I am away!
It’s not meant to be high end or luxurious, but they are modern with a fun, party vibe that caters to younger travelers. I think a lot of young people are willing to pay a premium for a fun experience.
