I think being rebooked on ITA AIrways would be fair, but they rejected doing that. They did offer to move my flight to a day later, which is sub-optimal.
you booked in an actual DIFFERENT FARE CLASS, regardless of currency (miles v cash) - both contractual and b/s marketing - which they downgraded/failed you.
i’d deal with whatever makes you happiest now, then file a DOT complaint.
you didn’t change the equipment - they did.
