I always fly from Oslo - luckily I have friends there I can stay with - but it is significantly cheaper, especially with flex fares.

In October 2024, it was £1600 return in flex from LHR to SIN, but OSL (on BA) to SIN via LHR (exact same LHR-SIN QF2) was £980. Got flights on BA LHR to OSL return for around £110. Also do this if flying to Australia or NZ. I don't mind the extra flight as usually book it as a multistop, so have the weekend before in Oslo, fly to London, have a week stop over, then fly the following weekend to SIN or SYD/AKL.
