Thinking more about your question, I would add to be mindful of whether the insurance via a card is primary or secondary. In reviewing coverage from my Canadians personal provider and my various credit cards, I noticed that in at least one instance this had changed since I first looked into several years ago. It can make a difference.
Last summer when I took rental car insurance coverage up with Amex (at least for my card) they confirmed it was primary. I keep a note with day/time of call, agent’s ID etc. Hopefully no claims in future but wanted to be prepared.
My card is the amex reserve. I did occasionally file rental car insurance claims in the past, which they consistently paid. This said, I read through the insurance certificates, and I could find no mention of insurance being primary, or not. But neither did I find any wording that pointed to it not being primary.
