4. if i upgrade with cash and miles, is my new ticket treated as revenue in that class? i thought not, but had a BA flight i upgraded to first with miles and it credited as first (AA purchase, BA operated, AS credited)
1) Generally speaking, yes, the upgrade offers are the same regardless of what exact booking code you purchased.

2) If you're in economy then you may get different offers to both Premium Economy and Business. If you're in Premium Economy then you'll only get an offer to Business.

3) No, award space is different from upgrade space. However for most long haul flights, if you see the lowest 'sAAver' level award space available (U for business), then it's likely that upgrade space will also be available (C for SWU or miles/copay upgrades).

4) This entirely depends on what flights you upgrade and what program you're crediting to, upgrading a BA flight and crediting to AS is different than upgrading an AA flight crediting to AA. AA awards LP's for buy-up upgrade offers, so it's really the same with AA.
