Reminder that EWR-HKG is not coming back until Russian air space reopens. (Don't hold your breathe for it reopening with the incoming administration.) To avoid Russian airspace, the flight path would add a minimum of ~575 miles, possibly more depending on the winds, which would require UA to block off several rows of seats in the back. Thus, UA could not fly EWR-HKG profitably on a regular basis, possibly losing money on every flight if it were flown daily. If and when Russian airspace reopens, again don't hold your breathe for anytime soon, probably one of the LAX-HKG frequencies goes to EWR-HKG.
