I remember a lot of buzz over a rotary shifter in a Jaguar that was unveiled 10 or 15 years ago. It would raise itself when the car started and lower when the car turned off. Everyone thought it was so cool. Then Chrysler adopted it and made it mainstream. Once car makers realized it was cheaper and allowed more space for cupholders and devices, they all started adopting it.
