I could not care less about the better deal they got, which I'm SURE is why they're trying to discard existing reservations so they can make MORE money (because existing rates at that place are already barely covering the bills I'm sure). That is not how you are supposed to do business but because everything is skewed in favor of the corporate greed and more and more customers are increasingly living full Stockholm syndrome and convincing themselves they should tolerate and accept every endlessly greedy and despicable practice hotels, airlines, etc engage in, it goes on and on. You took the bookings, now accept it and make the profit you agreed to instead of trying to (successfully trying at that because the consumer has ~ZERO real power these days) alter the terms whenever you see fit because a more favorable set of terms came along.
My understanding is they’d offer X amount of points plus honor whatever rate OP booked just checking in a couple days later.
There’s a plethora of options.
While I don’t think a hotel should agree to a buyout of they have stays booked and cannot accommodate those guests, it happens. The best OP can do at this point is get the best compensation/agreement with the hotel.
