Both companies have decent fleets at LAX, so you should get a nice car. Hertz has some incredibly rude employees at LAX, so edge to Sixt on customer service.
Both locations are also prone to making false damage claims, so your odds of ultimately having a very bad experience are unfortunately rather high. Whichever company you choose, be sure to take photos or video of any damage to the vehicle, no matter how minor, prior to driving away and take a thorough video of the entire vehicle (including roof, wheels, and window glass) upon return.
