We have done this probably on ~ 10 airlines, and 75% tend not to care. 2 people in a seat is an entirely different issue, which would also violate FAA, EASA (and other) regulations, not simply airline policy.
I told you what I have seen working, accepted. SQ crews are trained to watch out for any such scenarios and actually do take it seriously as they can get written up by senior crew for any lapses. So personally, I have not seen a swap mid flight work on SQ and yes there were like 2-3 attempts that I noticed in maybe 15+ years, so not a huge sample admittedly.

In one case the seat neighbor asked the crew what was going on as he found it strange.that a different person suddenly sat next to him. I know that as I was chatting with the CS & LS in the galley when he dropped in on his way to the bathroom, so don't discount that possibility as well. Crew sprang into action immediately and the swap had to be reversed straight away.

Visiting briefly has been tolerated though, but as someone else reported, SQ crew normally will rather quickly after noticing ask the pax in the higher cabin to go to the lower cabin and not vice versa.

But then maybe you are onto a new airline ticket option/ new ancillary option, the right to swap seats mid flight between cabins with another person in your party (same PNR) for an extra xxx$. Airlines always look for ways to make extra money and this being potentially "cost neutral" to a carrier that could yield pure profit so better keep it hush hush before anyone catches on .

Will be interesting to hear your experience if you decide to report back. I'd say it's risky, but each to their own.
