Review of recent stay.

We had the pleasure of staying at this hotel over NYE and were in the Andaz Suite.

We arrived around 3pm and our suite was ready. At check in we were offered a drink of our choice. We ended up just having a beer. Check in was smooth and easy and everyone was very friendly. We were also informed of the breakfast benefit and then told we could also order room service and would only have to pay the €7 delivery charge.

We got to the suite and found it to be spacious and with a very unique decor. My fears of only having the atrium view and feeling claustrophobic were alleviated as there is a window in the living room that looks out over the rooftop and same in the bedroom which has the additional window over the bed with some canal views. See earlier post for pictures of that.

There were a few issues with the suite. In particular with the light controls. The light over the dining room table couldn’t be turned on. We finally determined it was because the bulb had been loosened. But there was a reason for this. There was no way to turn off that light except to remove the key card which of course turns of everything. There was also a burned out bulb in the bathroom and we couldn’t figure out how to control the accent lights in the living room. Engineering quickly came up and tried to fix things. Long story short even engineering didn’t know that the switch for the accent lights was by the desk. They were never able to fix the fact that the light over the table couldn’t be turned off and in the end the only option was to turn off master or unscrew the bulb. Not really ideal for what they normally charge for this suite.

Engineering tried several times to fix it. We actually went out exploring and came back to find a bit of a mess in the closet area that we ended up cleaning ourselves. But upon our return the room was really cold. We tried to turn on the heat but that didn’t work either. It was now later at night and the only person they could send up was somebody from housekeeping. It was determined there was a problem with the heat so they brought a Dyson space heater. The positive part the housekeeping guy showed us how to operate the accent lights.

The heating was eventually fixed the next day.

We had some trouble finding the additional towels - they are in a drawer under the sink just so you don’t do what I did and call down for more towels. 😂

For NYE we booked into the hotel bar and it was a nice experience. I thought it was strange that there were no decorations but we had an enjoyable time and they were very good about some dietary restrictions. We became quite friendly with a number of staff in the bar and they comp’d us quite a few drinks, etc.

We did take advantage of the in room breakfast each morning, and all except the last day the check we signed was for €7. On the last day the guy said it would be adjusted by the front desk. Well upon check out it wasn’t. At check out I then was told that in room breakfast was not included. When I pointed out that each day except the last I paid €7 they removed the final days breakfast charge. So I’m not sure if it is or is not too be included.

We did very much enjoy our stay even with some of the issues. We were surprised that the hotel did not send anything to the room as an apology. We had been really looking forward to our stay since I booked it back in July - and were surprised the suite was available. It didn’t quite live up to what I expected but we’d stay here again if we can confirm a suite. The regular rooms would probably be a bit of a let down for us.

I’m back and forth on whether to bring up the lighting and heat issues with management/Hyatt. More so because I hope it will be addressed for future guests.

If anyone stays in this suite going forward please report back on the light over the dining table. 😂
