I had a very similar question (I wasn't about to drop from being GGL, but my space release would have gone past its expiry date when I might have needed to make a change).

I was told by the GGL team that the space release is stored with the booking. I was told that I could change the dates of travel up to 12 months from the original date of booking, with that space release still useable, and that the new ticket would be valid for 12 months from the date of change.
