Sounds like you made a change to your initial ticket using the change flights tool, vs. booking a brand new reservation, then using the FFC as a form of payment. Big difference, and you should always book something brand new instead of changing the old.

that said, does sound like something strange is going on here. You definitely should not been able to book something and have a re-issued ticket when the PNR was no longer valid.
