LAX is my "home" airport (as I imagine it is for roughly 15M+ other flyers). It's not directly affected by the fires and if it does become impacted, the scope of the apocalypse that would lead to that would have repercussions far beyond simple air travel. Granted, the air quality in some parts of the basin not directly affected by the fires is gross. But it would be like avoiding JFK because Central Park is on fire. I assume the purpose of the waiver is to allow people whose plans in the greater LA area are hampered or prevented by the fires, rather than a need to avoid the airport itself, particularly for transit.
