Anyhow, the max is really got her upset. I know equipment changes are something we should expect but I thought air Canada would help us here and put us on a different plane. Any advice on this? Or we just cancel or change with tons of money lost?
For a few months after the MAX came back in to service in 2021, they had a goodwill policy that allowed for free changes when a flight was switched to a MAX. But that expired around three years ago. Any changes/cancellation will be on you.
Note that if you plan to cancel your AC booking and re-book on another carrier, you run the risk of the same issue - WestJet, Flair, United, and American all have substantial numbers of MAXes, and even if you book a route that doesn't have a MAX scheduled today, equipment changes are always a possibility - just as you encountered with AC.
