We stayed at the Shangri-La a couple of years ago, just for a night, but would not hesitate to go back…if for nothing else but the kids amenities and service. Never stayed at Mandarin so cannot compare.
we were not in a themed suite, but one of the rooms with the ‘tent’ beds in the alcove area, which was awesome for our little one (5 I think, at the time). Biggest issue for us, but obviously no one’s fault, is about 5 minutes after our kids went to the water park, they had to close it due to lightning in the area. Our kids were fine though since they went to the indoor kids area and were quite entertained there.
I will say the buffet was amazing, with tons of options no matter dietary needs (for my wife, she was amazed, even it being Singapore, that there was a full South Indian spread in one area). And too much too choose from in the bakery area.
another thing is attention to detail. We checked in on my birthday, and there was a birthday cake from the bakery in the room, with a happy birthday note. We never told them it was my birthday; assumed they figured it out since we sent, per their request, passport info/copies prior to arrival. So attention to detail is pretty great.
In fact, might be back in Singapore in the spring, and very likely going to stay there once again.
