I stayed with the ROA-ORD flight, even though the original ORD-DSM flight did delay over an hour, I did miss it.

Finally boarded ROA-ORD FOR 7pm departure, pushed back a little late and sat and sat. Finally Captain tells us, ORD issued Ground Stop for 1hr30mi, could be more could be less, so we're going back to gate to deboard. Thankfully, we were able to reboard about 30 minutes later, pushed back, and Captain tells us we have to deice and are #2 for the truck. Of course we do! LOL

So we sit and sit and finally Captain tells us, the deice truck broke while deicng plane #1 and we have to wait for them to fix. Couple minutes later he lets us know they brought out a second deice truck, so they are finishing plane #1. We sit and sit, and Captain let's us know deice truck #2 also broke so we are waiting to find out if they're going to find a 3rd deice truck, wait and fix either of the two broken trucks, or what. In the meantime, we have passengers who want to get off the plane so I'm checking with ops for our options.

A few minutes later ... "Good news folks, the first deice truck is fixed, was a blocked deicing fuel line. While we wait we are heading back to the gate to let off those passengers who want to get off and stay in ROA." So back to the gate we go, 2 passengers get off (thank goodness, no check bags had to be retrieved), and then we sit and sit and sit and sit. Turns out we are topping off the fuel ... Good idea!

Finally, push back and deice truck right there waiting. Seemed like an eternity before they started, and seemed to be taking a long time, so long that they did a second mini pass as the ice on my window seemed to be reforming. FINALLY rolling onto snowy runway, and it has been a long time since I've been so happy to feel the wheels lose touch with the ground and to be airborn!

Took forever for WiFi to connect (but grateful it was actually working) to find I'd been rebooked to 9am flight this morning. ORD Hilton was sold-out by now, and just wasn't worth the hassle of getting shuttle to a different hotel for a few hours of sleep before having to shuttle back and go thru security again. Landed at F12 and next flight supposedly at F25, so headed to quiet connector corridor between F and E with plan to sleep on the floor. Instead, found the hallway lined with cots and sleeping passengers with a few empty cots so I snagged one. Wasn't the best sleep I've ever had, but far from the worst and I was grateful not to be on the floor. Airport staff rousted us about 4:45am so they could put the cots away, and now I'm in the Club. Off to wash my face and brush my teeth, then coffee!

Aren't you glad you asked? Does this count as a Trip Report?
