It is best to download the app and apply there so that you can pull up the app and present the approved ETA to whoever needs to see it.
Thanks. I reviewed that site and already have my ETA. Unless I missed it, it doesn't say what the verifying process of the foreign carrier is.

I imagine if there were major issues with the process, it would have been revealed already, but would be great to hear from someone that has experience.

Added: I just checked my trip info and it says I am "travel ready". Wonder if there is something else going on with your record? Did you already get your ETA?

Yes, already have ETA. Maybe there is something else in my record. But odd that I'm Travel Ready for the return to US but not outbound to UK. Same passport for both. Will keep checking.

I'm baffled at the UA language you highlighted about not being refused entry solely for not having an ETA. That's contrary to everything else I've read, including on the UK site.
