I'm of two minds after my last stay at RC Mega. On the one hand, the treatment we received was (mostly) fantastic and I'm certain to be back. On the other, I totally get where those who don't feel this property are coming from.
Applied an NUA which cleared to a Mayfair Suite the day before check-in. It was spelled out beforehand that room upgrades do not grant lounge access (per RC protocol, I presume), so expectations were in check. Inquired how much the buy-up is and was quoted US$60++/per pax. Erm…. Had dinner/drinks off-site at LOEWY instead.
It seems base rates at RC Mega now include restaurant breakfast. Unfortunately, I found the buffet at Asia Restaurant incredibly underwhelming. The usual global variety hodgepodge, but nothing memorable with the exception of Christmas cupcakes. I prefer the Club Lounge offering and if we're going to get into comparisons, even JW's breakfast makes more of an impression.
There’s now an Elite offering at Asia Restaurant in the evening. Gold (yes, Gold) and up can join the dinner buffet and enjoy free flow drinks (including cocktails, wine & beer). What's interesting is there didn’t seem to be any restriction on special event nights like Christmas and New Year.
Spent most of check-out day lounging by the pool. One has to give RC Mega props for their pool and grounds, probably the best of any Bonvoy in town (Sheraton Soekarno Hatta's look pretty great too).
