I can't recall the name (I really should pick up business cards or take pics of menus), but it was within a couple on Oxley Road near the Grand Hyatt, and was very famous for their roast duck. She brought me there because she knew my love for roast duck, but the dim sum was surprisingly excellent, in my view.
PS - Will get you the name if I ever come up with it. I'm still searching for that great char siu hawker place I visited several years ago. I think it was the best I've ever had.
I'd be curious as well. Depending on what you consider close. It's not far, but Grand Hyatt and Oxley aren't really close either (I'd say one to two kilometres, but for some of my relatives, that's painfully far). I wonder if it's one of the Imperial Treasure restaurants in the area. Their food is pretty good (not cheap). Unfortunately I know a few of them have shut down in the last few years (some of my relatives use them for business lunches).
If you're a fan of roast duck, there are a few good places in Singapore (haven't tried them yet, but they come up often). 88 Hong Kong Roast Meat (the one near Chinatown) and Roast Paradise (Old Airport Road Food Centre). Avoid those "street food" duck resellers (they're kinda like popups with a small roasting oven). We get lots of roast duck here. Not horribly expensive, but you need to find a butcher with a decently sharp knife.
Great, now I have a hankering for chinese BBQ and everywhere's closed. Maybe tomorrow.
