Isn't that the pre-Amadeus days? I thought with Amadeus now they could do it at check-in or the concierge office without having to have the gate do it. Or maybe they can but they're not supposed to without checking with the gate?
I definitely recall a few post-1A experiences with that. But then I've also heard them call the gate to ask for permission to print a BP when I'm already checked in, so who knows.
