Yes, one does. I discussed this at length with them last summer.
Also, be aware they do not provide any liability coverage. One has to rely on personal insurance for that. Turns out my personal policy has a different rental car limit than AMEX and other cards. This has changed since Covid because they used to be the same — $85000.
Not sure about your personal policy but mine only offers 30 days coverage and the CC gives 48. Another thing that changed. I had to redo some reservations to comply in order not to loose liability coverage.
I’m on a rental ATM turned down a great upgrade because of this. While I hope never to claim, simply can’t risk it.
