I tracked my spend for years (4? 5?) and finally gave up. Some of those years I hit and others I saw my pace and enjoyed titanium. In reality not much difference. For me (approx. 100 actual stay nights/year) I found the big difference in hitting the spend requirement is charging food to room, which I'd be doing anyway. Frankly, hitting on room spend alone isn't that difficult with hotel pricing in major metros anyway, but note that conferences sometimes dont count for any spend at all (just nights...) which pushes the average needed $/night up.
