Nothing odd about it, lounge staff usually know what room numbers equate to what room type and the typical occupancy for such. Then they check the system if more than 2 guests show up if more are registered to the room or even the suite. If more show up than registered to the room and exceeding lounge pass permissable guest count, they ask, and then the back and forth can start.
Villas and even higher end suites are not necessarily the norm and usually booking one in several of the desirable (lounge wise) places may automatically come with lounge access so often the lounge pass can be a moot point. Of course there is definitely the possibility that 4 or 5 or so guests stay at a 2-Bedroom pool villa, but even then you are supposed to register them so staff know how many to expect. YMMV.
Lastly, I don't think anyone of us was saying we stick our nose into such incidents and start investigating or so. However, if somewhat noisier conversations between a lounge staff and guests (the guest being the one raising the voice) happen that everyone notices the commotion and words like lounge pass, Diamond etc. and where it is written that I can't bringx number of my guests to the lounge and such are thrown around, it becomes rather obvious. Hard to unhear things.
