Air Mauritius - refused refund for Cancelled flight

RUN - MRU - KUL, when checking in for first flight got email notification that MRU-KUL cancelled. Check in staff in RUN has no clue, no information about cancellation, but tell me since I got cancellation email, they will only check me in (and luggage) until MRU.

Arrived to MRU, connection desk not staffed, had to clear immigration to speak to customer service. They offer flight next day, I ask to put me on Emirates which leaves in 2 hours, they tell me Emirates is fully booked. I book myself online on Emirates and ask Air Mauritius agent for refund. Agent refuse to discuss refund, refers me to online form.

Two months after filling online form I receive reply that I since I did not originate in EU country I am not eligible for compensation.

I reply that my request has nothing to do with EU compensation and I am asking for refund of canceled flight.

Another two month later they reply that I am not eligible for refund.

Filed dispute with Credit Card.
