There are several beaches within 20-30min walk. I've walked to Wyllie's Beach, an intimate beach with very few people; it's accessible from a steep path by the Westin. I can't recall if I was able to cross the stream to get to the more famous Anini Beach. In the opposite direction, there's also Hideaway Beach; I haven't walked to that beach but it looks gorgeous from above (the sunset pic). There's also Queen's Bath near Hideaway Beach; it's not a beach but amazing (and slightly dangerous) lava rocks and swimming hole next to the sweeping ocean. All are about 20-30min walk, and there are probably more.
I would say it's more convenient for stunning views than being at the beach, if walking. For driving, plenty of beaches between Hanalei and Haena, and the drive is lovely.
Air Conditioning. I know this property doesn't offer it, is it needed?
The 2 different units I stayed in both had AC. It was included in the redemption with no extra charge. Reviews indicate maybe not included in cash rates.
Appliances. HGow are the appliances? Look pretty outdated in the standard pictures on their website.
They were fine from what I recall. Fridge was full size and seemed new.
