If you were able to check a bag for free on the KLM operated flights due to having Skyteam status, that is a Skyteam perk. MH - Malaysia Airlines - is not a member of Skyteam (they are a member of the rival oneworld alliance) and therefore cannot similarly offer you a free extra luggage item, because your Flying Blue status is irrelevant to MH.

That it was booked as a KL codeshare is also irrelevant - you appear to be travelling on a ticket having 0 inherent luggage allowance, and MH are in no way required to observe Skyteam perks and benefits - even on KL-coded flights that they operate. The ticket you chose comes with 0 baggage allowance. KLM are obliged to waive a fee for the first checked bag if you have Skyteam Elite/Elite Plus status, but Malaysia Airlines are not at all obliged to waive the fee for the first bag for their flight.

However, $120 sounds steep for a checked bag from KUL to SIN. Was the fee you were charged for the entire journey, KUL-SIN-AMS-CDG? If so, it sounds like MH screwed up, but it would be up to MH to refund you the excess paid; they should have charged you just for a KUL-SIN baggage fee, whatever that may be.

If, instead, you were travelling on a Standard, Standard Plus or Flex fare, had only one bag, and were charged by MH for that bag, then something is indeed also wrong.

So first - can you clarify if you were travelling on a Light ticket and have Skyteam Elite or Elite Plus status?
