Also if your seat allocation (that you made while the BA FF was still attached) messes up, you will no longer have free seat selection, so will need to change FF number back to BA make the selection then change back to Qatar.
NB You are limited to 5 posts in your first 24 hours on FT, so you may need to be patient when replying.
I changed the FF to QR today via the live chat. Took a bit longer because there was a wait to speak to someone and I started at 55 in line.
However I may have found a work around to get some of the benefits of gold/emerald with BA. I booked all the seats I wanted, including front row on club Europe short haul for extra leg room. I have kept those seats when I switched so I think this seems to be a viable way to get free and blocked off seats then switch your FF number.
I think with my gold card I can still get the benefits of checkin and lounges. I was flying QR from Rome but the QR lounge was full so I just went to the BA lounge that was empty. So I think it can work.
