Mother of pearl is traditional from a time before plastic existed. Plastic is my preferred spoon. But it only makes a big difference if you are actually spooning it directly into your mouth (yes we do that).
I agree with other posters that caviar is an indicator not a requirement. In top flight F I *expect* caviar to be an option. But I also expect lots of other things. BA delivers very few of them, but at a budget price. If you want 'proper' F you will pay a lot more and go on a different carrier. £20 worth of caviar is not in itself going to make a significant difference to the BA offering. And there are no Russia flights at the moment anyway to enjoy it as a regional bonus. Who knows what that service will look like when it eventually resumes.
