I've had two successful (and easy) claims from Citi recently, one for $1000 (2 pax) and one for $500 (just me), but both for canceled CapeAir flights (CapeAir often cancels and just says "we refunded you, good luck" if you can't wait for the next available CapeAir flight). Citi paid the claims quickly and without any fuss.
The limitation on missed connections (i.e. where the delayed flight that causes the misconnect is <6hrs delayed) is indeed huge and is a big gap in this coverage.
Note also that rental car costs are not covered as transportation expense. So when I was stranded in Augusta, Maine after a CapeAir cancellation of the last flight of the day to Boston, I paid $600 for Blacklane to drive me (+1) to Boston (because Citi would not have covered a $200 one-way rental). The $600 was covered, along with $400 of my $450ish in hotel/food costs (original itinerary was AUG-BOS-XXX, and I rebooked into a morning nonstop BOS-XXX). Overall seems like reliable coverage so long as you don't fall into an exclusion.
That is really helpful to know. That part ($600 okay but $200 not due to Blacklane vs. car) sounds like working for the state or something! ha!
LukeSky Thank you so much for this. Extremely helpful to know.
