I think that's right. You won't be able to do it because your BA status won't be linked to your ticket and won't be on your boarding pass. So no first wing check in and no First Lounge. Also if your seat allocation (that you made while the BA FF was still attached) messes up, you will no longer have free seat selection, so will need to change FF number back to BA make the selection then change back to Qatar.
