On my path to Gold via the 50 flight route, I was upgraded to Silver without a single IB-coded flight. Between Silver and Gold I had an IB flight. (because I had read that requirement) It might be a YMMV scenario.

I think there might still be an old blog post of mine out there, where I mistakenly thought that IB+ Platino worked the same way as Turkish Miles & Smiles.

If you understand the nuances of the Spanish language, "ultimo" is clearer than "segundo". After all, if you are regularly requalifying, your "second" year of Platinum could have been years ago. And if you reached Platinum very early in the qualification year, the last year of your Platinum cycle would be your "third" year of Platinum status.
