OP mentioned lack of communication and impersonal, but you can't blame the airline for not reaching out. It is almost impossible to reach out to everyone. Maybe DM's will get a call or message, but quite unlikely for Gold.
Yeah, a call,or an email will give the OP at least a soft landing to Silver. He might even be offered to retain Gold if he has future flights with CX already booked.
