There are some pros:
  • The grounds and pools look great. Kids will definitely have fun.
  • The beach was nice. A bit rocky, but nice
  • Extremely niche but they had gluten free beer. Haven’t seen that before in a resort like this. If GF, I’m sure you’ll enjoy finally getting to drink a beer by the beach.
  • The staff was friendly
  • For the most part, the resort doesn’t feel too crowded even if there’s some bottlenecks.

The cons:
  • The hallway in the main tower (maybe the casas too?) is open, and faces the other resort’s back side so the view is meh and detracts from the relaxing feel of the resort. It also exposes rooms to the sound of service vehicles/etc which again isn’t relaxing.
  • Related to the point above, the room doors really don’t isolate sound well. So you’ll wake up hearing the beeps of some service vehicle on reverse, or hear people passing by, etc.
  • Hard product finishes feel a bit rough around the edges.
  • I had to wait 30 minutes for breakfast when the resort was at 70% occupancy.
  • Dinner was meh although you can go to Punta de Mita nearby for much better food at much better prices.
I 100% agree with your assessment, and, if I had to pay the end of the year rates which are around $1,500/night, I definitely would pass. I would likely return, and it was my 2nd stay at the property. I purchased the Hilton points and ended up paying 380 K points for 5 nights, which less than $400 / night all in for a room with 2 beds. Hard to beat that rate, even in Puerto Vallarta around this time, unless you want to stay in downtown.

BTW, highly recommend Punta Mercedes in Punta Mita. For $120 4 of us had an unbelievable meal, from appetizers to desserts.
