Capella and Sofitel Legend are probably the best properties. IC West Lake is somewhat dated but has a nice location on the water which is a little distance from most tourist activities but also a nice and more relaxing area. Many points hotels including the former HR West Hanoi have poor locations for sightseeings. The Old Quarter has a large number of boutique hotels which are good value for money but I don't think at an international 5 star level.
