What I've done in the past in such cases is downgrade (to the green in case of plat card) for a pro-rated refund if no retention was offered and 30 days from AF had passed. I do find enough value in the personal plat to keep without retention but due the Brilliant card downgraded to the $95 legacy card when no retention was offered (and had never even received one in the past).
