Are there any programs such as hotels that I can transfer the points to?</font>
No. BA miles can only be used for flying of one sort or another (either explicitly for flights, or for upgrades to the next class of service on flights you pay for).
It's very easy to get BA miles in fast (for people who stay at certain hotel chains a night at a time a lot, and/or for people who use certain charge cards), but you have to remember that you can only use them for flying (and only on BA, or with HUGE RESTRICTIONS like ABSOLUTELY NO CHANGES/REFUNDS you can use them for partner awards on AA, etc).
For $75 you can sign up for a BA Visa from Bank One, and that gets you another 15000 BA miles (plus gets you into the BA FF program if you aren't already). That takes you up to 35000 (if it's all in the same account!), and 35000 miles plus $175 (plus taxes/fees) will get you a round trip ticket in coach between the US and "nearby" Europe (UK, France, etc).
Or if you're ABSOLUTELY SURE about the travel dates, you could use the same 35000 miles to book a round trip from the US mainland to Hawaii on AA.
