Maybe they realize they can improve RevPAR by raising price significantly. With 1k budget I would go to some true luxury brands (4S, MO, Pen) instead.
Assuming that those hotels are also charging above their “regular” rates…
On a related note, airline fares to Japan from the US at least also feel quite high.
