I am not sure they are really even treating it as a VIP / invite only side much anymore. A polite "Would you mind if I used this side" at the desk should suffice.

I tend to like the self-pour bar and the restrooms are a bit nicer, so I use that side almost exclusively now. Only if I want a decent bloody mary to I venture over to the big side.
