Has anyone had experience requesting a temporary credit limit increase for a large purchase? Any magic words to say when calling in?

Or can I prepay $30K and then make the payment? I think I read somewhere Amex does not allow pre-payments.

I'd like to do this in a single payment in the next few days as this will be a 2024 Q4 Estimated tax payment.
My past experiences are that an on the spot credit increase is unlikely, Amex will likely recommend speaking with the underwriting department. The automated online system will not accept greater than balance due payments. The route I have taken a handful of times on my Centurion card (definitely not unlimited spending power) with the guidance of my Amex account manager is to wire money into the account which then causes a temporary ability to utilize the standard credit line and also the wired in funds. By speaking to an operator at Amex , they can give you the Amex account and notations you would need to have the funds allocated to your account.
