Except the wait for an Uber Black at 10 pm was an hour due to the back-up in the loop.

This hotel's proximity to LAX terminals is probably its best feature. With a full day to kill, staying at HR LAX and taking an Uber to somewhere walkable in West LA is a good call.
It's also not bad to walk north along the cross street to the small park that's good for plane spotting. There are some useful stores and inexpensive restaurants near the park.
