That gives them the excuse you "clicked away" and purchased other than from their referral, and then neither Cartera gets paid by their sale commission nor do you get your miles.
Some vendor sites open new tabs automatically when going through the purchase process. Hilton and Macy's come to mind. Haven't yet had a problem with those not being tracked though.
