I also didn't get much of an upgrade, but the base room is pretty nice. The breakfast was quite good, on par with what I expected. My biggest complaint is that they don't seem to have enough chairs at the pools in high season. I detoured to the gym instead, but they hassled me because I wasn't wearing the right kind of shoes (having planned to go to the pool). So that was a failure.

The grounds are beautiful. I do wish they had straight paths, though, as they make you walk twice as far as you really need to in some cases.

I enjoyed my stay here. But I also feel like you need a specific reason to come here. There really isn't much nearby, except for the Aquaverse (which I didn't go to). There is nearly zero establishments of any kind within easy walking distances. I did go to Bangsaray, which was about a 100 baht taxi ride each way. They have interesting fishing boats and some restaurants/bars on the beach. It's possibly worth a trip if you're in the area.

It was a bit challenging to find taxis, but I couldn't tell if that was due to remoteness or due to New Years (maybe the latter).
