just relying on PAY TODAY does not matter. you have to go step further. and make sure its charged immediately. which is why my safe route from now is NON-REFUNDABLE.

here is a section of my amex travel booking receipt to clearly show something went wrong. even tho i picked PAY NOW. DEPOSIT DUE TODAY. i was never charged. only pre-auth hold for a day. then nothing. NOT prepaid. no deposit. nothing. i got to hotel and told me i need pay full. dont trust the language about JAN 1st depo by hotel. nothing happened on multiple bookings. no charges.

I understand what happened to you but looks like Amex fixed it.

You do NOT need to book a non refundable rate. This screenshot was your booking where unfortunately you were charged a deposit by the hotel but the other screenshot is how it n your post shows whether you’ll get charged by Amex which is how it normally works.
